Kanso

A quiet tea house in Montréal.

A serene Japanese tea room with tatami mats, a low table and a tea set

Kanso means simplicity.

The room holds twelve seats and one long cedar counter. There is no music, no menu board, no hurry. Water is heated to the exact degree each tea asks for, and poured slowly, by hand.

We serve tea the way it has been served for four hundred years: whisked, not rushed. Most guests stay an hour. Some stay for the rain. Both are fine.
